Replacement Double Glazed Units
Glass is a good insulator but it would need to be very thick as a single pane in a window to have much effect. So rather than have thick glass in your windows it is better to have two panes of glass with an air or gas space between them. The bigger the air space, the less heat is lost, up to an optimum of 20mm.
Ordinary glass
Types of glass stocked or available to order are, Horticultral, Float, Patterned and Mirror.
Safety Glass
This can be either Toughened, Laminated and Safety Wired Glass. Safety glazing is mandatory for all installations within 800mm of the floor in windows and partitions, and within 1500mm of the floor in doors and side panels.
Low Emissivity glass or Low E glass
The glass must be used in a double glazed window so that the special reflective coating, which is always placed inside the cavity, is protected from any damage
Decorative Glass
This can be Opaque, patterned, Stained, Sandblasted or Etched.
In addition to the above standard glazing options there are a number of further choices to be considered,
An advanced, high performance Low E Glass that allows a clearer view through the glass can be used, traditional Low E glass has a yellow tint.
Self-cleaning glass, Not 100% maintenance free but it will not need to be cleaned as frequently or thoroughly as conventional glass.
Argon Gas filled units are used to improve the thermal properties of the double glazed unit.
Georgian bars or leaded designs may be required.

Glass Splashbacks & Work Surfaces
Glass worktops and splashbacks can be templated, supplied and fitted throughout the South Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Middlesex & London. Glass worktops are typically manufactured from 19mm thickness glass and if they have cutouts in them then the worktops are normally toughened. Glass worktops and glass splashbacks can be supplied in a huge range of colours Low-iron glass is frequently used for the worktops to allow the colour to permeate through the worktop without being marred by the green tinge characteristic of ordinary glass. Glass splashbacks are typically 6mm thick. The worktop glass can have cut outs for undermounted or inset sinks, drainer grooves and tapholes can be incorporated. Don't forget, as with most other kitchen worktops, hot objects such as saucepans should never be placed directly onto a glass worksurface. Edges details vary from square to a mitred edge or a triple pencil edge. Lights can be inserted into the worktops; this will introduce a whole new dimension to your new kitchen and make your kitchen a talking point!
